Description

The purpose of studying the Old Testament is to understand God and his redemptive work more fully. However, this goal is complicated by the fact that it was transmitted through a very different language and culture from our own.

In this special Olive Tree collection not only can you dive deeply into the subject with the Survey of the Old Testament text, but you can also supplement and augment it with the authors' audio lectures and the the associated workbook and study guide.

The third edition of A Survey of the Old Testament is an indispensable guide for readers who want to explore the literary, historical, and theological issues behind the Old Testament and its various books. For each Old Testament book, the Survey addresses background information, purpose, message, structure, and major themes. Chapters introduce each major section of the Old Testament and deal with issues of interpretation, geography, archaeology, history, formation of the Old Testament canon, and the Old Testament's relationship to the New Testament.

The text is enhanced throughout by maps, photos, timelines, and charts. This full-color third edition of a widely acclaimed textbook has been expanded and redesigned in both text and graphical elements, making it even more beneficial.

The associated Survey of the Old Testament: Audio Lectures allow you to step inside the classroom with Andrew Hill and John Walton for a unique audio learning experience that, unlike a traditional audiobook's direct narration of a book's text, includes high quality live-recordings of college-level lectures. These lectures cover the important points from each subject as well as relevant material from other sources providing an indispensable guide for listeners .

The accompanying A Survey of the Old Testament Workbook follows the textbook's structure and offers readings, activities, and exercises designed to support your learning experience as you explore the literary, historical, and theological issues behind each book of the Old Testament. It offers an additional contact point with the content and concepts from the book and will help you better understand the Old Testament, its background, purpose, message, structure, and major themes. This workbook is an indispensable study resource for students and independent learners alike who want to deepen their understanding of the Old Testament and the God it reveals.

Finally, for quick recall, have critical information available at your fingertips with the included Get an A! Study Guide which presents a summary of essential information about Old Testament culture, history, and terminology.
