1987年に出版された『聖書 新共同訳』（旧約聖書続編つき）は、現在、日本で最も多く使用されている聖書である。カトリック、プロテスタントによる日本で初めての共同訳である。訳業は、聖書協会世界連盟と教皇庁のキリスト教一致推進事務局とが連盟で1968年に公表した「聖書翻訳におけるプロテスタントとカトリックの共同作業のための標準原則」に準拠している。現代日本語の用法をより取り入れつつ、教会の内外の方々に理解し容認されるような文体として評価されている。

The New Interconfessional Translation (新共同訳聖書) by the Japan Bible Society provides a modern, ecumenical translation of the Bible in Japanese. It is a fresh translation from the original Greek and Hebrew texts, and contains the entirety of the New and Old Testaments as well as the Deuterocanonical books.
