About the Editors
Joseph S. Exell, 1849-1909, was the son of an ordained Methodist minister and served the rectory of Stoke Fleming, near Dartmouth for twenty years. He served as editor for well-respected periodicals, The Pulpit Commentary, The Men of the Bible, The Preacher's Homiletic Library, and the Biblical Illustrator.
Henry Donald Maurice Spence-Jones, 1836-1917, was ordained as a priest in 1866. He served as Rector of Saint Mary de Crypt Church and later as Vicar and Rural Dean of Saint Pancras. In was Dean of Gloucester, Principal of Gloucester College, and Professor of Ancient History at the Royal Academy.
