Old Testament for Every Preacher

Preachers are given the great honour and responsibility of inviting people into deeper faith and hope through their sermons. There are many books written about the art of preaching but what if the Bible itself could be the greatest resource? In this comprehensive exploration of communication in the Old Testament, Dr. John Goldingay highlights the four ways communication helped shape the people of God. The models of preaching presented in the Old Testament are story, teachings of the Torah, prophecy, and the psalms. These different forms taught individuals who they were, gave instruction for right relationship with God, confronted the realities of the present while also pointing to the future, and taught how to praise with enthusiasm and pray with boldness. Goldingay practically demonstrates how modern-day preachers may replicate this model by including sermons he preached during his time as a pastor and professor. Written in accessible language, this is a must-read for all who desire to preach in ways that bring about true transformation.
